Agenda Overview

Cincinnati USA today is at an important crossroads. Our region is endowed with exceptional resources. Yet there is no clear and comprehensive picture for deploying our assets in a manner that will allow us to achieve continued social progress, economic prosperity and community building.

With this in mind, a group of passionate leaders from a variety of sectors of society in Greater Cincinnati have come together to organize an action agenda for the four primary counties of Southwest Ohio (Butler, Clermont, Hamilton and Warren). Deemed Agenda 360, the mission of this initiative is to transform Cincinnati USA into a leading metropolitan region for talent, jobs and economic opportunity for all who call the region home by the year 2020. As this agenda emerges, it will be aligned with similar initiatives already well developed in Northern Kentucky (Vision 2015) and Southeast Indiana to form a comprehensive regional agenda for the Tri-State region.

What Makes This Different?

Developing a shared agenda is a novel approach to regional civic leadership, and it includes a strong bias toward action. Our intention is not to re-create the outstanding long-range planning and visioning work completed by various other public and private organizations over the years. Instead, we will synthesize and focus the results of previous initiatives and develop bold and inclusive action strategies, as well as clear and consistent measurement indices. In the process, we will look to fill gaps in activities already under way and provide new energy toward making an impact. In addition, the first steps in achieving our mission will require that, together, we:

• Develop metrics for success and continuously monitor regional progress
• Nurture and leverage our physical, cultural and intellectual assets
• Critically confront the challenges of diversity, inclusion and economic disparity
• Unite our region in a consensus for prioritized action

Action Teams

In order to reach our objective, diverse, inter-generational action teams of subject matter experts and civic-minded individuals have been formed in key areas of concentration:

• Competitive economy
• Educational excellence
• Livable communities
• Urban renaissance
• Effective governance

Support teams on inclusion, advocacy and communication also have been created to ensure our actions are widely understood and appropriately incorporate input from every segment of the community. All teams are large and broad-based, with regional representation from all segments of the community. Each team will meet regularly for the duration of the project.

Leadership

This initiative is being co-chaired by Kevin Ghassomian, attorney with Greenbaum Doll & McDonald; Dr. Myrtis Powell, retired president and CEO of the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative and former vice president of student affairs at Miami University; and Ellen van her Horst, president of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber. A leadership team and advisory council includes the heads of the region's most important civic-minded organizations.

Timeline

The work of the Shared Regional Civic Agenda began in Spring 2007 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2008, by which time implementation of action steps will have begun in coordination throughout the Greater Cincinnati region.
